Language Arts With Baby E

“It takes a village to raise a child” is a saying I have grown accustomed to as I’ve learned that it sincerely does. When we welcomed our daughter, my husband and I found that despite hours of online parenting classes, my daily dose of What to Expect the First Year, weekly visits to my OB, and relentless Google searches forming the backbone of our parenting education, we were navigating uncharted territory; nothing truly prepared us for the reality that awaited.

At first, my husband was my rock, especially after my C-section. His unwavering support and care for both me and our baby were nothing short of extraordinary. He was there for every tear, every moment of doubt, ensuring I had the rest and comfort I needed to heal. He took on the roles of a chef, a diaper-changing world record setter, and a night owl extraordinaire, embarking on every aspect of parenting with commitment and a lighthearted spirit. We prioritized doing daily mental check-ins and speaking to each other with patience and tenderness since we felt that sleep deprivation and unfamiliar territory could efficiently fuel arguments.

We embraced open communication, accepting and offering constructive criticism gracefully, constantly reminding ourselves that the same goal united us: to create a nurturing environment for our beautiful daughter to explore and grow in her life. His dedication and boundless love fortified our bond and transformed this daunting phase into a profoundly beautiful experience. He was my partner in every sense, and together, we faced the journey of parenthood with a shared perseverance and a deep, abiding love.

We quickly learned, though, that parenting is not a solitary endeavor that depends only on our united commitment but rather a collaborative effort that requires support from family, friends, and the community. This collective support system, our village, provided the encouragement and relief we desperately longed for after those first early days during those challenging early months. Whether it was grandparents watching Baby E so we could go for a jog or calming me down in the middle of the night when Baby E was sick, their help was invaluable.

I have come to intensely appreciate the truth in the adage, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Raising a child is not just about the immediate family; it involves a broader network of love, wisdom, and assistance. This village helps parents navigate the uncharted waters of growing a child, nurturing an overwhelming journey into an enriching one. Ultimately, our village’s strength shapes us into better parents and better people.

The first years of a child’s life set them up for their future relationships and life skills.

Along with providing your little loves with love, care, and attention, an introduction to Language Arts from day one will spur their imagination and creativity. I’d like to be part of your village as you and your child explore Language Arts activities like reading readiness, writing skills, and finding the best word to convey your meaning.

Through this column, I’ll provide practical tips, heartfelt experiences, and encouragement to help you navigate the ups and downs of this important endeavor.
